MY MISSION
Too often I've met people who have been promoted to being a lead or manager and they are not given the training they need to feel empowered in the role - and also too often they perpetuate bad behaviours they've seen from their past managers or leaders because they don't have another mental model to approach to solve their problems.
In my career, I've had too many managers who were more of a cautionary tale of what not to do rather than an example to follow and, looking back, I believe they didn't actually have an idea of what other options they could have chosen. I believe that they weren't bad because they wanted to be, but they were bad because they didn't have any idea of what good could look like. I'm empathetic to those managers now because although I was looking for someone at a higher level of expertise as a leader so that I could learn from them, I realize now they weren't capable of being that for me because their own managers never were for them. For the sake of teams, I want to help their managers have more tools in their toolboxes so the teams don't struggle so much.
